Bracia Karamazow Fiodora Dostojewskiego: hosanna oczyszczająca się w "piecu wątpliwości"
AbstractThis article is polemic against Michał Kruszelnicki’s text “The Brothers Karamazov”: Dostoevsky’s Tainted Hosanna. I refer t issues such as aesthetic message of the novel and ‘mercantile’ vision of God, allegedly approved by Zosima and Alyosha. I do not agree with the scholar who tries to prove that both characters see problems of suffering and death in terms of “benefit,” and also disregard children themselves and treat them instrumentally. I analyze the novel’s (and biblical) categories of ransom (purchase) and punishment, and also the issue of theodicy (Zosima’s considerations on The Book of Job). I also pay attention to the characters’ attitudes in terms of suffering of fellow human beings. I juxtapose the concept of “impure” hosanna with the concept of hosanna that cleans itself in the “stove of doubt,” which points out the Christian meaning of the novel.
