The article deals with the evolution of outerwear of medieval Polish knights. Since the beginning of the Middle Ages and up until the 1230s the chain mail had fabric coverings. During the next 200 years chain mails and armor steel plates which protected the chest and back of the warriors were covered by clothing made of fabric. From the 1420s until the end of the Medieval period, the knight plate armor was open.
