AbstractThe main objective of this research is estimation of the psychomotor development in early childhood children who underwent the laser coagulation procedure while in the womb. The study involved 38 prematurely born children affected with TTTS. In order to compare the TTTS affected children with prematurely born children from the control group, the children were matched in terms of sex, week of birth, birth weight, Apgar score, as well as the age at the time of the study. This way, a control group was obtained that counted 35 prematurely born children without TTTS. The research method used: Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development Third Edition, medical history documentation, parents interview. The results suggest overall normal psychomotor development of children with TTTS. However, significant differences were observed between the donor and the recipient in terms of cognitive functioning, language functioning, receptive language and fine motor skills; where the development of the recipient is better than that of the donor. The psychomotor development of children with TTTS in comparison to control prematurely born children was worse in the cognitive, language (including expressive language), fine motor skills domains.
