AbstractSeaports exist as an important and fundamental part of the global structure of internationaltrade and transport. They have some principal roles/functions in the economy. Aseaport is a place where ships can load or discharge their cargo and/or passengers. This isthe prime function of every port. The purpose of this paper is to analyse and evaluate therealization of the transport function of the major Polish seaports. The analysis includescargo throughput and ships traffic in seaports in Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin i Świnoujście.
