Abstract

One important finding from recent literature is that the phenomenon of succession strongly influences the functioning of family-owned businesses. On the other hand however, as the evidence shows, the majority of family firms experience significant difficulties related among others to the lack of a potential successor. In this study we analyse factors which determine attitudes towards succession among 142 students of economic faculties. The results of the analysis indicate that the students who chose the career of a successor represented mainly medium and large family-owned enterprises with explicit succession plans. In similar, the aforementioned persons had a strong interest in the business activities of these firms and were interested in active participation in management processes.
