Sytuacja Amerykanów chińskiego pochodzenia w XXI wieku
AbstractChinese immigration to the United States begun in 1848 and was directly related with the Gold Rush. Since then, each year thousands of Chinese have aimed at starting new life in America; for them – the land of peace and prosperity. Even though most parts of their immigration history had been filled with discrimination, segregation and exclusion, the Chinese community managed to overcome the difficulties. In the 21st century they constitute an integral part of the American society, being more than 1% of the whole population of the USA. The main goal of the article is to describe the situation of Chinese Americans, born both in the USA and outside its borders, in the 21st century. It presents demographical data on this ethnic group and analyzes the growth of the population since the beginning of the century. The article also focuses on socioeconomic status of Chinese Americans basing on their educational background. The whole analysis closes up with an attempt to foresee a vision of future for Americans of Chinese origin.
