Znaczenie motywu jaworu w warmińsko-mazurskich pieśniach ludowych

Ewelina Lechocka , Krystyna Szcześniak

This article is an analysis of sycamore motives, which occurred in collection of Warmian and Masurian folk songs elaborated in XIX and XX century. The purpose of this study was to define meaning botanic vocabulary mentioned in folkloristic texts and to compare poetic representation ofsycamore motif with its role in culture of Warmia and Masuria’s inhabitants. Name sycamore used in folk songs refers not only to the proper meaning of this plant - name of the tree species, but among the lexemes used are the metonymic changes of meanings. Except ‘purely vegetal’ meaning, associated with words, calling the whole plant (especially growing), the analyzed name was used alsoin genetic significance – for naming the plant material.
