Świadomość patologiczna. Notatki o Miłoszu, Schulzu i stracie

Jakub Orzeszek

Abstract

The author attempts at pointing out some similarities and contradictions occurring between the selected treads in the writings of Czesław Miłosz and Bruno Schulz, especially in their ideas of childhood, initiation and loss. The paper consists of four paragraphs named: 1. "Visions, recognitions, initiations"; 2. “The Book and its lack”; 3. "Sadness and anger"; 4. "Knowledge and poetry". The first one compares two biographical scenes recalled by Miłosz and Schulz as initiatory rituals that introduced them into the "dark side of being". The next two paragraphs refer to the concepts of a mishandled innocence extended in their writings. Although conclusions on existence itself are rather pessimistic in the reflection of both authors, they consistently believe in salutary nature of literature and art in general.
