Wizerunek Finlandii w twórczości Akiego Kaurismäkiego na przykładzie "trylogii fińskiej"

Katarzyna Piękoś

Abstract

The paper proposes a semiotic analysis focusing on the image of Finland depicted in director’s Aki Kaurismäki three films known as the Finland trilogy: Drifting Clouds, The Man Without a Past, and Lights in the Dusk. The image of Finland as shown in these films is created by the use of the same or similar imagery and recurrent motifs, which together compose a consistent representation of the country. Among them are the following: the choice of music, formal register, art references, the handling of the lights as well as the choice of old-fashioned props. Together they function as a way to induce nostalgia on two levels: the characters’ and the audience’s.
