The genus Cuitlauzina is comprised of species of horticultural interest andis relatively well known. Hitherto six species have been recognized, all ofthem reported in Mesoamerica. Recently, new explorations in Guatemalarevealed the existence of an undescribed taxon. In this article we describe itas Cuitlauzina cariasii, a striking novelty from the mountains of Guatemala, and it is compared to its closest relative, Cuitlauzina pulchella. We alsoestablish the presence in Guatemala of Cuitlauzina convallarioides. Finallywe discuss the diversity of orchids in Guatemala.
