Methodology of maritime spatial planning in Poland

Jacek Zaucha

The paper discusses the methodology of maritime spatial planning (MSP) and the lessons learned through its practical implementation in Poland. The Polish experience has led to formulat- ing the following know-how recommendations: ensuring conscious policy effort (planning is only a part of a broader spatial development process or policy), securing sound axiological foundations, making sure that the MSP has been designed in line with long-term horizon requirements, installing cross-sectoral integration and integration within a given sea basin, and allowing MSP to cover the entire sea space (including its terrestrial part).
